What Remains follows two boys in Edinburgh over the course of a summer, as their fragile relationship is tested by a rare genetic illness. As memory begins to slip away, one of them must remember for both.

Bernardo Battistini is a writer and director from Rome, based in London.

Drawing on a strong background in photography, his work explores identity, intimacy and transformation, with particular attention to queer, romantic and coming-of-age stories.

His short film What Remains (2025) is an official selection of the Scottish Queer International Film Festival and the One Fluid Night LGBTQIA+ Film Festival 2026.

His next short film, a coming-of-age story set in Sicily, is in development.
